Obituary of Mary K. Drakos
Age 72 of Frankfort, IL passed away Monday, January 31, 2022 at Lightways Hospice Home. She was born in Joliet, the daughter of the late Chris Zouganelis and Kalliope Antoninis, who raised her like a daughter. Mary graduated from St. Francis Academy with the class of 1967 and received her Bachelor’s Degree in Education from the College of St. Francis. She was a special education teacher at T. E. Culbertson Elementary School in Joliet until 1989. She was owner/operator of Frankfort Auto Clinic until retiring in 2004.
Mary was a member of All Saints Greek Orthodox Church, Philoptochos Society and the church choir.
She is survived by her loving daughter, Kalliope (David) Dawley; her “special son”, Agustin (Laura) Cuevas; 4 grandchildren, George (Kayla), Maria, Esmeralda and Nayeli, who were her pride and joy, all of Frankfort; her sister, Pamela Pomykala of Joliet; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and many special friends also survive.
Mary is preceded by her loving husband of 38 years, George Drakos; her parents; her brother, Buddy Mathison; two aunts, Katharine Zouganelis and Jennie (Francis) McKanna; three uncles, Ted (Jennie), George (Helen) and James (Dorothy) Zouganelis.
Visitation for Mary K. Drakos will be Thursday, February 3, 2022 at the Fred C. Dames Funeral Home, 3200 Black Road (at Essington Rd.), Joliet, from 2:00-8:00 p.m. with Trisagion Services at 6:00 p.m. Funeral Services will be held Friday, February 4, 2022 at 9:45 a.m. from the funeral home chapel to All Saints Greek Orthodox Church, 102 N. Broadway St., Joliet, for services at 10:30 a.m. Interment will follow at Woodlawn Memorial Park. Memorials in her name to All Saints Greek Orthodox Church or Lightways Hospice would be appreciated.
