Obituary of Kenneth John Barry
Kenneth John Barry, Sr., age 75, of Channahon the past three years, and formerly of Marquette Park and the Southwest Side of Chicago, passed away unexpectedly on Monday, January 31, 2022 at Amita Health St. Joseph Medical Center Joliet.
Born October 3, 1946 in Chicago, he was the son of the late James and Mary (Tarasik) Barry, and served three years with the United States Army during the Vietnam War. Ken was employed as a spotter and yardman for American President Lines, Ltd., now APL, for over 30 years until retirement.
Ken was a loving and devoted husband, father and grandfather who led an active life and considered family the most special and important thing in his life. He loved all sports and actively played many sports throughout his life, especially bowling, softball, and fishing. He was also an avid Chicago Blackhawks fan.
Surviving are his beloved wife of 53 years, Dorothy (Riebel) Barry of Channahon; two loving children, Kenneth (Theresa) Barry, Jr., of Plainfield, and Tracy (Michael) Talaga of Channahon; two adoring granddaughters, Rhyanne and Rece Barry; three sisters, Barbara (the late Andrew) Budz, Maryanne (Ken) Hildebrand, and Annamae Barry; one brother, James (Rita) Barry; his wife’s sister and husband, Florence and Claude Dillon; and many nieces and nephews.
Funeral services for Kenneth Barry will be held Saturday, February 5, 2022 at 1:00 p.m. at the Fred C. Dames Funeral Home, 3200 Black Road, Joliet, IL 60431. Visitation will follow the service from 1:30 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
Cremation rites will be accorded following the visitation, and interment in Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery will take place Tuesday, February 8, 2022 at 11:00 a.m. Family and friends are invited to meet at the funeral home at 9:45 a.m. and process to the cemetery.
