Obituary of Sr. Therese Tusek, OSF
Sister Therese (Mary Stephen) Tusek died at Our Lady of Angels Retirement Home on February 17, 2022. She was born in Lockport, the youngest of eight children of the late Anthony and Julia (Kufner) Tusek on September 23, 1928. She was preceded in death by her sisters Julia (John) Torkar, Verna Helen (Francis) Whalen, Ann (Benny) Komar, and brothers Anthony (Mary), Stephen Joseph and Raymond (Rosemary) Tusek. She is survived by numerous nieces, nephews, grandnieces, grandnephews, and dear friends.
Sister Therese attended Fairmont Grade School, Lockport Township High School, and St. Francis Academy. She earned her BA in Philosophy from the College of St. Francis, Joliet, and received a MS in Foods and Nutrition from the University of Illinois, Urbana. For 17 years, Sister Therese taught high school in Ohio and Illinois. In the second phase of her career, she was involved in parish ministry, spending 30 years in parishes of Ohio, Illinois, and Iowa serving in the areas of faith formation and pastoral leadership. Returning to Joliet, Sister was a nutrition consultant/counselor at the University of St. Francis Health and Wellness Center. When she moved to Our Lady of Angels in 2013, she offered her talents in volunteer ministries. Wherever Sister Therese went, she gave assistance to the homebound and became known for her warm hospitality. Sister Therese was a treasured member of the Sisters of St. Francis of Mary Immaculate for 74 years.
A Memorial Mass will be celebrated at Our Lady of Angels. Interment will be at Resurrection Cemetery, Romeoville.
