Obituary of Mary Ann Elens

Mary Ann Elens (nee Maloney)

Mary Ann Elens, of Joliet, IL, passed away at the age of 87, surrounded by her family, at Our Lady of Angels Retirement Home, on Monday, February 21, 2022. Mary Ann was born on August 6, 1934, the only child of the late John and Katherine (nee McCarney) Maloney. Born and raised in Joliet, she was a graduate of St. Francis Academy. Mary Ann married the love of her life, Ronald on June 8, 1957. After raising their four children in Joliet, Ronnie and Mary Ann moved to Seneca, IL and established Pizza by Marchelloni’s in 1991, and operated it for seven years. They resided in Seneca for 25 years and were very active in the community. Mary Ann was a parishioner at St. Patrick’s Church in Seneca and secretary of St. Patrick’s Altar and Rosary Society. Mary Ann was also the treasurer of the Lion’s Club in Seneca, IL. Mary Ann loved her grandchildren and great-grandchildren and was their number one fan. She enjoyed winning at cards, shopping, luncheons, and family get-togethers. Family meant everything and she said, “I don’t need a gift because being with you is the best present that I could ever have.” Mary Ann took great pride in her Irish heritage and always celebrated St. Patrick’s Day with family.

Mary Ann is survived by her children, Joseph (Kay) Elens, Kathleen (Arthur) Scheuber, Charlene (Robert) Bannon, and Susan (John) Schwartz; grandchildren, Sean (Jordyn) Elens, Brendan (Breann Fisher) Elens, Mark (Lea) Scheuber, Reenie (Daniel) Fluyeras, Michael (Emily) Scheuber, John (Mairi) Bannon, Patrick (Breanne) Bannon, Matthew Bannon, Katie (Brad Scheel) Schwartz, and Kevin Schwartz; and her great-grandchildren, Cecelia, and Cora Jo Elens, Evan, Isabella, and Grace Scheuber, Lucas and Caitlin Fluyeras, Ioana and Maggie Bannon, and Clara and Nora Sagen.

She is preceded by her loving husband of 57 years, Ronald Elens; her parents; and her grandson, Christopher Bannon.
