Obituary of Victor R. Martinez
Victor R. Martinez, age 79, passed peacefully at his home in Joliet, on Friday, April 29, 2022, surrounded by the love of his family. Victor was born in Tamaulipas Tampico Mexico, on July 28, 1942, the son of the late Sixto and Magarita Martinez. He grew up in Harlingen Texas and attended Lockport High School. Victor retired from the General Motors Electro-Motive Division after more than 35 years of dedicated service. He enjoyed bowling, watching movies, WWE wrestling, boxing, and anything related to his grandkids! Pop as his kids and grandkids called him enjoyed making people laugh and smile. Victor was a dedicated family man who will be missed by all who loved him. He was a proud United States Army Veteran stationed in California, Kentucky, and Alaska.
Victor is survived by his loving wife of 55 years, Maria Del Carmen Martinez; his children, Gloria (Fernando) Hernandez, Victor Jr Martinez, Elsa (Cesar) Trevino, Veronica (Gilberto) Segura, Robert Martinez, Lorena (Fransisco) Gutierrez, Olga Martinez, Johnny (Angela) Martinez, Andre Martinez, and Antonio Martinez; grandchildren, Lizzette, Yonathon, Daniel, Jessica, Sebastian, Jennifer, Nicoli, Brianna, Nathan, Gabrielle, Gilberto, D’Angelo, Aaliyah, Jaylynn, Jisela, Johnny Jr., and Jasmine ; eight great-grandchildren; and his sister, Sara Rybarceyk. Several nieces, nephews, and cousins also survive.
He is preceded by his parents; two grandchildren, Angel Matthias Martinez and Earli Jaziel Hernandez and his siblings, Benjamin Martinez, Sixto Martinez, Guadalupe Martinez, Concepcion Cordero, and Adelaide Moore.
Funeral Services for Victor R. Martinez will be held on Monday, May 9, 2022, at 10:00 a.m. at the Fred C. Dames Funeral Home, 3200 Black Rd. (at Essington Rd.), Joliet, IL. Interment will follow at Plainfield Township Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Sunday at the funeral home from 1:00 to 6:00 p.m.
