Obituary of Dorothy Mallory Bickel
Dorothy Mallory Bickel
Age 96, of Channahon, IL and formerly Baltimore, MD, passed away peacefully, Sunday, May 15, 2022, at Lightways Hospice Home of Joliet, IL.
She was born in Brunswick, Virginia December 7, 1925.
Dorothy resided in this area since 1965 and was a longtime member of Familes of Faith Church in Channahon.
Dorothy is the beloved mother of Gerry (Alan) Loucks, the late Joseph “Butch” Bickel, Jr., Sandra Bailey, Debbie (Bernie) Bols, and the late Kevin Bickel; loving and devoted grandmother of Melissa (Douglas) Hanson, the late Alan Loucks; Stephen (Clara) Bailey, Kimberly (John “Jack”) Pondelicek; David (Becca) Bols and Kelly (Trent) Olson; proud great-grandmother of Samantha and Carter Hanson; Ann and Rachel Bailey; Jack, Faith, and Dylan Pondelicek; Mason, Caleb, Norah, Eliza, Emery Bols, and Sutton Olson. She will also be missed by Gerry Johnson who was like a daughter to Dorothy.
She is preceded in death by her sons, Butch and Kevin; grandson, Alan Loucks and her former husband and friend, Joseph Bickel, Sr.
Dorothy was no stranger to personal tragedy throughout her adult life. Despite the toll losing her sons and grandson would take on a mother and grandmother, she managed to live a long productive life, always encouraging and supporting her family in each of their endeavors. She will be remembered fondly for her wisdom, perseverance, her beautiful penned poetry, and her devotion to her family and the Lord. We all surmise her faith in God and the time period in which she was raised played a big part in the beautiful soul she possessed. May she have eternal peace.
Funeral services for Dorothy Bickel will be held at the Fred C. Dames Funeral Home, 3200 Black Rd. (at Essington Rd.) Joliet where visitation will begin Friday, May 20, 2022, from 3:00 p.m. until services begin at 7:00 p.m. Interment will take place at Woodlawn Memorial Park.
