Obituary of Erik Thor Thorson
Erik Thor Thorson
Erik Thor Thorson, age 55, of Plainfield, passed away peacefully at his home on Friday, July 15, 2022, surrounded by his loving family. Erik was born in Aurora, IL on November 11, 1966 to Carol Mae McGuckin and the late John Tillman Thorson. He was raised in the Riverton, IL area and was a graduate of Williamsville High School, Class of 1984. In 1997, Erik went on to become a Union Operating Engineer with Local #150 where he was still a proud member to this day. In 2013, he became a member of the Lockport Masonic Lodge #538. His dedication and commitment to serve others was quickly recognized. In 2019/2020 he achieved the distinguished position of Worshipful Master and served two consecutive terms.
Erik had many hobbies. From motorcycles, mechanics, model trains and cranes, to pocket watches, solitaire, and eBay. He loved taking his kids and any other neighborhood kid that wanted to join, on adventures around the neighborhood and beyond. Anyone that needed help with a sump pump, deck or other project, he was there on the spot with the RIGHT tool. He also had a flare for big fire works on the 4th of July (no pun intended) because he used a blow torch to light them up.
Erik is survived by his beloved wife of 14 years, Julie (nee Keller) Thorson; his children, Zachary and Aurora Thorson; his mother, Carol (Pat) McGuckin of Springfield; two brothers, Erin (Van) Thorson and Evan (Stacy) Thorson, both of Cantrall, IL; two sisters, Eden Armstrong and Elise (Justin) Everhart of Sherman, IL; sister-in-law, Linda Keller of Chicago and many nieces, nephews, Masonic brothers and Union brothers and sisters.
He is preceded by his father; John Tillman Thorson.
