Obituary of Carol Sharpe

Carol Sharpe
(nee Comerford)

Carol Sharpe, passed away peacefully at the age of 97, on Saturday, July 23, 2022, at Our Lady of Angels Retirement Home surrounded by the love of her family.  Carol was born on February 28, 1925, the daughter of the late John and Helen (nee Murray) Comerford. Born and raised in Joliet, she was a graduate of St. Francis Academy and a longtime parishioner of the Church of St. Jude.

Carol was a devout Catholic who led by example.  She was a loving mother who always put her family first, and did so with a smile on her face!  In her free time she was an avid golfer and always cherished playing bridge with her friends. She will be missed by all who loved her.

Carol is survived by her son, Howard W. (Rebecca); daughters, Janet M. Baker, Nancy M. (Mark) Wingate, Diane C. (Bruce) Meyer and Karen A. (David) Gonzalez; grandchildren, Warren Baker, Marti (Ryan) Krieger, Andrew (Marissa) Wingate, Margaret (Austin) Pensinger, Stephen (Sarah) Meyer, Lisa (Paul) Funnell, Carolyn Meyer, Stacey (J.P.) Jaworski,  D. Alexander Gonzalez, and Paul (Aiza) Creekmore; and 17 great-grandchildren, Benjamin, Coral, Avalyn, Lily, Olivia, Hannah, Cole, Luke, Vivienne, Elouise, Jacob, Daniel, Camden, Peyton, Theo, P.J. and Isabelle. Numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins also survive. 

She is preceded by her husband, Howard Sharpe; two sons, Thomas M., and Robert J. Sharpe; her parents; and her siblings, Joanne Benedict and Jack Comerford.

Funeral Services for Carol Sharpe will be held at 9:15 a.m., on Wednesday, July 27, 2022, from the Fred C. Dames Funeral Home, 3200 Black Rd.(at Essington Rd.), Joliet, to the Church of St. Jude, McDonough, Joliet, where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m.  Visitation will be held at the funeral home on Tuesday from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m.  As it was her request, cremation rites will be accorded following the services.

Inurnment will take place privately by the family at Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorials in her name to Lightways Hospice, 250 Water Stone Circle, Joliet, IL 60431, would be appreciated.
