Gilbert Lopez, Sr.
Gilbert Lopez, Sr., of Joliet, passed away unexpectedly at the age of 58, on Tuesday, August 2, 2022. Gil was born in Chicago, IL, on August 19, 1963, the son of the late Gonzalo and Genoveva (nee Hernandez) Lopez. He attended Bowen High School and has been a dedicated Electrician with Local Union 134 for the last 30 years.
Along with always having a smile on his face, he had a great sense of humor and modest demeanor. He loved listening to music, spending time BBQing with family and friends, watching sports on one of his many TV’s, (especially his beloved Chicago White Sox and Bears), and was always willing to help anyone with anything they needed. His family was his entire world. He lead by example and shaped the lives of his children by his love and guidance. Gil will be missed by all who loved him.
Gil is survived by his loving wife of 25 years, Debra R. (nee Colonna) Lopez; his children, Kim (Wilfredo) Davila, Gilbert Lopez, Jr., Michael Angelo Lopez, and Marcus Anthony Lopez; his grandchildren, Diovanni Davila, Mea Oquendo, Alicia Lopez, Aiyana Lopez, Elija Davila, Isaac Ramierez, Michael Lopez, Jr., Josiah Davila, and Isaiah Antonio Lopez; his siblings, George (Betty) Lopez, Gonzalo “Charlie” (Marianne) Lopez, Jr., Rosaura Lopez, and Gerardo “Yayo” (Beatrice) Lopez; his mother-in-law, Erlene Williams; his in-laws, Anthony (Mary) Colonna, Kevin (Leslie) Burke, Michelene Colonna, and Penny Gonzalez; and his faithful canine companions, “Rocky” and “Maximus”. Several nieces, nephews, and cousins also survive.
He is preceded by his parents; his siblings, Sergio and Gabriel Lopez; and his sister-in-law, Posie Mischeri.
Visitation for Gilbert Lopez, Sr. will be held on Monday, August 8, 2022 at the Fred C. Dames Funeral Home, 3200 Black Rd. (at Essington Rd.), Joliet, IL, from 2:00 p.m. until the time of Funeral Service at 7:00 p.m. Family and friends are asked to wear their favorite Chicago White Sox attire. As it was his request, cremation rites will be accorded following the services.
