Obituary of Cyril J. Quinlan
Cyril J. “Sox” Quinlan, age 86, of Shorewood, IL, formerly of Stickney, IL, passed away August 12, 2022 surrounded by his loving family at his home. He was born September 6, 1935 in Chicago, IL to the late Hermine and Cyril Quinlan.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 64 years, Marlou Quinlan; his loving children, Michele (Robert) Ptak, Catherine (Daniel) Pruger, and Kimberly Haggerty; his two dear grandchildren who he helped raise, Brittany (Francisco) Gutierrez and Brandon Haggerty; granddaughter, Danielle Pruger; his adoring great-grandchildren, Joseph Cyril Belzek, Bailey and Loghan Gutierrez. Many nieces, nephews, and dear friends also survive.
Preceded in death by his parents; his brothers, Jack (Mary Rita) Quinlan, William “Bill” (Geraldine) Quinlan, Tom (Katherine) Quinlan, Raymond (Lorraine) Quinlan, Jerry (Florence) Quinlan, Wally (Shirley) Quinlan, and Joseph (Mary Kay) Quinlan; his sisters, Florence (Jim) Vanderslice and Beatrice (Ed) Schaefer; and dear brother-in-law, Carl "Corky" (Sheryl) DelGatto.
Sox grew up in Chicago and graduated from St. Philip High School. He worked as a driver for the Baby’s Valet Diaper Service retiring in 1997. He was a member of the Fraternal Order of the Eagles.
Sox loved sports, with Notre Dame being #1 and the White Sox coming in right behind at #2! He was also an avid bowler, but not able to get that perfect 300… he just had to make peace with the score of 297. Sports was a pastime he enjoyed with his family. He coached his grandson, Brandon’s, baseball teams for many years. His great-grandson, Joey, would sit and watch the Blackhawks and any other sporting event with him. If they were not able to watch it together, there would be a phone call to discuss the game. He will be remembered for his hard work ethic, the support he gave his family at times of need, and the many trips he enjoyed with those he loved.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Alzheimer’s Association or to Parkinson’s Foundation.
