Coach Ward was truly an incredible teacher and also was a inspiration to all of us who played baseball at JCHS. I was lucky enough to play for him as he taught me to believe in myself . He always told me “Don’t get down on yourself, keep your head up”. Coach Ward, you were a great motivator. Thank you for all you did for me. God bless Katie and family.

From the time I started at LTHS, Chris was an incredible mentor and friend whose words and example I will carry the rest of my life. He was a role model not only as a leader, but also as a husband, father and community member. His wit and humor were matched only by his kindness and the genuine interest he took in others. I was blessed to know him. My deepest condolences to his family at this time of loss. I hope the wonderful memories of time spent together comfort you today and in the days ahead.

May the road rise to meet you.
May the wind be always at your back.
May the sunshine warm upon your face.
May the rains fall upon your fields.
And until we meet again,
May God hold you in the palm of His hand.
Rest in Peace, Dr. Ward.

I have so many fond memories of Chris. Many from years of pheasant hunting in ND. The best was on a warm October day. Chris Sr. and my father Chuck were standing on the end of a tree row while Chris Jr., my brother Mark and myself were beating the bushes for roosters. Suddenly, Chris Jr. on the outside of the tree row and in clear view of the situation screams rooster as a bird flushes in front of him and was heading for Chris Sr. That rooster must have been going a million miles per hour because Jr. could not even get his gun up fast enough to get a shot. Of course Chris Sr. saw the entire situation unfold as it had at the end of his gun barrel so many times. Sr. waited, waited, waited and at the perfect time took his shot. The bird was almost over head, at full speed which proved to be a most difficult shot even for the master. Sr. "hit" that bird so hard it fell straight to the ground. And so the debate between Chris Sr. and Chris Jr. ensued. You see there was a power line which was directly in the path of that explosive flight of the pheasant and Chris Sr., never wanting to miss and opportunity for a good story, shot just before the pheasant hit the power line. There was "no doubt" that Chris Sr. shot that bird. But, Chris Jr., never wanting to miss the opportunity to razz his father, was quick to point out that the bird was still flying when it hit that wire. He was so sure, I think there may have been a bet which quickly rose in value on the way back to the farm to clean birds. In the end, Chris was right and won the bet.
I regret my wife Shelly and I will not be able to attend the celebration of Chris Sr.'s life and as they say to tell the "rest of the story".
Rest in peace my friend. May the sun always be at you back when the rooster flushes and may you always shoot straight!
Blessings,
Matt and Shelly Reichert

I have the most wonderful memories of Chris making the rounds at Lockport High School and taking the time to stop in and chat if we both had the time. He was a genuine, down to earth "mensch". I never felt like he thought he was better than anyone else because of his position. I always felt that he was listening and that my opinion and the opinion of others mattered and was taken into consideration with every decision he made. God bless you, Chris. Enjoy you very well deserved rewards. You leave behind a legacy of caring and a world that is a better place because you were here.

Dr. Ward was a dynamic, innovative educational administrator who had genuine concern for his staff, students, and families. I was privileged to teach under his leadership at Lockport Township High School. Moreover, Dr. Ward was a person of deep faith. With his exuberant optimism and incisive insight into human nature, he recognized the potential of each person under his authority. He then proceeded to "cheerlead" his staff to greatness, celebrating the unique gifts of each person and urging everyone to creative engagement with the task at hand. Thus, Dr. Ward cultivated a culture of collaboration in which each of our L.T.H.S. students could thrive.
May Dr. Ward find congenial companions at God's heavenly banquet table. I am sure that he is enthusiastically regaling the angels and saints with his wonderful stories! We who remain have lost a worthy leader, mentor, and role model.
I extend my sincere sympathy to Dr. Ward's dear family and to the many friends he made in the course of a life well lived.
Sincerely,
Cathy Herman

Chris, his son Chris, two of my sons for several years hunted pheasants is SW North Dakota.
We stayed at a farm stead and ate out at different cafe’s, but after every meal we had to get Chris ‘his’ ice cream, often driving 30-40 miles. He loved ice cream and we constantly kidded him about it. He was a good trooper and a great shot

I had the pleasure of working with Chris at Lockport High School. He was more than a boss, he was a friend as well. I always felt welcome at gatherings that included his family. Of all the Superintendents that I worked for, Chris was my favorite. My heart goes out to Katie and the rest of the family. I know that these past years have not been easy for you and hope you find peace in the wonderful memories of his life.

Chris hired me right after I graduated from ISU in 3/79. As a new teacher, I appreciated his support & guidance. But what I enjoyed the most was his sense of humor.
I’m saddened by his passing, but comforted that his suffering is over.
My condolences to his family & friends.
I have fond memories of HHH staff, many I have kept in touch with over the years. I will cherish my memories of Chris.
