James F. Hartley
Age 79. Suddenly Wednesday, March 7, 2012 at the Joliet Area Community Hospice Home as the result of acute liver failure. Born in Joliet and a lifelong Joliet area resident. Attended Joliet Catholic High School. A U.S. Army Korean War Veteran. Employed at the Greater Chicago Truck Stop at I-55 and Route 53 in Bolingbrook up until three days before he fell ill. Former owner and operator of Hartley's Full Service Gas Station at 501 Plainfield Road. Retired from Caterpillar Tractor Co. in 1982 after over 32 years of service as a welder. A life member of Cantigny Post VFW #367, American Legion Post #1080 and the Moran A.C.
Preceded in death by his parents and one sister Barbara (Vernon) Lohmar.
Survived by his loving and devoted wife of 56 years, Shirley (nee Sanders) Hartley of Crest Hill; two sons, James J. (Kathleen) Hartley of Shorewood and John Hartley of Crest Hill; one daughter, Susan (Ronald) Gibson of Hawaii; eight grandchildren, three great-grandchildren and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and faithful canine companion, Kirby.
Funeral services for James F. Hartley will be Monday, March 12, 2012 at 9:15 from the funeral home to St. Anne Catholic Church, Crest Hill for a Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. Interment Woodlawn Memorial Park Cemetery where full military honors will be conducted under the auspices of the U.S. Army. In lieu flowers, memorials to Joliet Area Community Hospice would be appreciated. Visitation Sunday 2-6 p.m. at:
