Obituary of Harold L. Nowland
Harold L. Nowland, age 96, passed away Saturday, October 1, 2022 at the Lightways Hospice Home in Joliet. Born January 20, 1926 to the late Thomas and Susan Nowland, Harold was one of nine children. He is survived by his sister Ruby Davis, and is preceded by sisters, Charlotte and Alfreda, and brothers, Thomas, Leland, Homer, Lawrence, and Augusta in Infancy. Harold served in the United States Army, and after his service to his country, he spent over 40 years working at the Prairie State Paper Mill as a millwright.
Harold lived a devout life, dedicating himself to hardwork and his faith. He was instrumental in the building of the original Larkin Baptist Church, now known as Stone Hill Bible Church.
He and his wife Elnora raised 4 children together before her sudden passing in 1966, Eugene Nowland, Richard (Tammy) Nowland, the late William (Virginia) Nowland, and Laura (James) Dahl. He is also survived by his grandchildren Naomi, Christopher, Cassandra, Crystal, Alexander, Ryan, Cherryse, and Cody; and numerous great grandchildren, nieces, and nephews. He is proceeded by his loving wife, Elnora; his son William; and grandson Keegan.
Funeral services for Harold L. Nowland will be Friday, October 7, 2022 at 1:00 p.m. at the Fred C. Dames Funeral Home, 3200 Black Rd., Joliet. Visitation will be Friday from 11:00 a.m. until time of services. Interment will follow at Woodlawn Memorial Park.
