Obituary of David L. Wilson
Age 63, of Romeoville, IL passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by family, early Monday morning, October 10, 2022.
He was born July 25, 1959 to Carole (nee Poe) and the late Thomas D. Wilson in Chicago, IL. David was a longtime Romeoville resident who graduated with the class of 1978 from Romeoville High School. He also attended Triton College.
He is the beloved husband of over 40 years to Catherine J. "Cathy" (nee Chaney) Wilson; loving father of Dennis (Angela) Simpson, Karen (Christopher Wolff) Munday, Michele (Ryan) Talley and Ernest (Kylie) Wilson; dearest son of Carole Wilson; devoted “Paw Paw” of Kathryn and Dale Simpson; Jacob and Zachary Wolff; Bentley and Calleigh Wilson; fond brother of Valerie (Stephen) Kowalewski and Shawn (Michael Bubba) Wilson and uncle of Nichole (William) Naughton.
In addition to his father, Thomas David Wilson, he is also preceded in death by his sister, Teena M. Cheek, his grandparents; mother-in-law, Una Simmons; special aunt and uncle, Donna and Bill Floyd; as well as best friends, Roger Brown and Vidal Solis.
David was employed for many years as a machinist for the Chicago Transit Authority. He was a dedicated employee who could always be counted on to get the job done and done right. His strong work ethic was undeniable in his professional life, but also during his free time. He often lent his skills and knowledge to friends, family, and even strangers in need of a helping hand. He was passionate about NASCAR, and traveled to a number of different races at tracks all around the country. Whether he was rooting for Jeff Gordon or Jimmie Johnson, he undoubtedly knew how to pick winners. Some of the family’s most treasured memories of David took place while camping at Woodsmoke Ranch in Seneca, IL. The time they spent together there, surrounded by the community of friends and neighbors, allowed for them to consider it a second home. All of the Woodsmoke Ranch community will fondly remember David’s easy humor, willingness to help out at a moment’s notice, elite bean bag throwing ability, and most especially the look of peace and joy on his face when sitting around the campfire making s’mores surrounded by his grandkids. David Wilson successfully created a beautiful and lasting legacy, one that will help to carry his family through this most difficult time and feed their souls for the rest of their days.
