Obituary of Carolyn Louise Szklanecki

Carolyn Louise Szklanecki, passed away peacefully, at the age of 85, on Sunday, October 9, 2022, at Sunny Hill Nursing Home, surrounded by the love of her family.  Carolyn was born in Harvard, IL, on April 3, 1937, the daughter of Raymond and Helen (nee Anderson) Okeson.  She grew up in Hebron and was a graduate of Alden-Hebron High School. In her free time, Carolyn enjoyed crafting and being creative with making inspirational booklets that she shared with family and friends. She loved to read and travel, having visited 5 of the 7 continents.

Throughout her adult life, Carolyn served others by volunteering with many organizations in Illinois and Arkansas. She was a spiritual woman, her walk with the Lord and church life were significant parts of her life.

Carolyn is survived by her daughters, Carol (David) O’Dell and Donna Schroeder; two step-sons, Louis (Peggy) Szklanecki and Dan (Jennifer) Seven; grandchildren, Sarah Bonnett, Brian (Charissa) O’Dell, Bethany (Brian) Overall, Timothy (Julia) O’Dell, and Benjamin (Marcy) O’Dell; 13 great-grandchildren; one brother, Obadiah (Rebekah) Okeson; one sister, Linda (Reginald) Price; and sister-in-law Karen Okeson.   Several nieces, nephews, and cousins also survive.

She is preceded by her husband, Edward Szklanecki; daughter, Vickie Schroeder; her parents; and one brother, Edward Okeson.

In lieu of flowers, memorials in her name may be made to Lightways Hospice, 250 Water Stone Circle, Joliet, IL 60431.

Funeral Services for Carolyn Louise Szklanecki will be held privately by the family. As it was her request, cremation rites have been accorded.
