Obituary of Joan E. Russ
Joan E. Russ, age 93, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, October 17, 2022 at her late residence in Shorewood. Joan was born on August 4, 1929 in Plainfield to the late Francis and Josephine Schmars and was a lifelong area resident, graduating from Joliet Central High School. In her early years, she worked as an accountant for a local insurance company, but after marrying her Husband, Anton Russ, she devoted the majority of her time into raising her three sons. However, when she did manage to find some time of her own, she enjoyed Bowling, fishing, golf, and dancing. She was an active member in the Ladies Auxiliary Cantigny VFW Post #367.
Joan is survived by her three sons, Gary (Terry) Russ, David (Darlene) Russ, and Paul (Sherry) Russ; 11 grandchildren, many great grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Anton “Tony” Russ; her parents; four brothers; two sisters and a grandson.
Family and friends are invited to join in celebrating Joan’s life on Monday, October 24, 2022 at the Fred C. Dames Funeral Home, 3200 Black at Essington Rds., Joliet, where visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. until time of final prayers at 12:00 p.m. Interment to follow at St. Joseph Cemetery where Joan will be laid to rest next to her late husband.
