Obituary of David J. Holton
Age 65, of Shorewood, IL passed away Monday evening November 14, 2022 in Joliet, IL with his family by his side. He was born in Joliet on November 21, 1956 and was a lifetime Joliet area resident.
After graduating from Joliet Township West (’74), David began a long career with Commonwealth Edison, retiring after 31 years of service, and later Lehigh Hansen Inc. (Material Service) in 2016.
Family was the most important thing in life to David. Surviving is his beloved wife of 40 years, Camille Holton; his adored sons David, Andrew, and Daniel Holton; dear nephew Brian (Nikki) Burke. Also surviving are his aunt, Lorraine Lorenz, and cousins, Greg (Paula) Lorenz, Scott (Pam) Lorenz and Sue (Jim) Kaynish. Preceded in death by his parents, Marilyn J. (Meyer) Holton-Parini and Albert D. Holton; sister, Terry Holton and cousin, Kim McGuire.
David was a born storyteller and history buff, spending many happy hours researching Joliet history and watching documentaries sharing this knowledge with his family and friends. He maintained lifelong memberships with the Moose and Elks Clubs, as well as the Matteson Masonic Lodge #175 of Joliet.
Throughout his life, David was also a passionate fan of baseball and the Chicago Cubs. He pitched for Rivals Baseball Club throughout his younger years, throwing multiple no-hitters, before a car accident in his teenage years nearly took his life, and ended his dream of pursuing it professionally. His love for the game remained, however, and he coached youth baseball for nearly three decades at Crest Hill, Ingalls Park, and St. Joes. He was also a member of the Old Timers Baseball Association.
When not cheering on the Cubs, he could be found driving his prize 1964 Cadillac Coupe Deville convertible, or in his later years, his Harley Davidson bike. He found joy in home renovation projects, but most of all, cooking for his family and friends, especially homemade deep-dish pizzas and Italian Beef sandwiches.
Everyone who knew David experienced his giving nature. He was a stranger to no one and found great purpose sharing in the successes, joys, and challenges of his children, family, and friends. He never hesitated to reach out to and support others in need. He will be greatly missed.
