Obituary of Janice E. Shelton

Janice E. “Moe” Shelton

Age 76, of Elizabethtown, IL, formerly of Joliet, IL, passed away December 17, 2022 at Hardin County General Hospital, Rosiclare, IL.  She was born October 10, 1946 in Peoria, IL to the late Mildred (nee Wells) and Aubrey Morris.

Survived by her husband of 59 years, Jerry P. Shelton of Elizabethtown, IL; two daughters, Jerri Lyn Shelton of Minooka, IL and Jill Ann Shelton of Knoxville, TN; brother, Philip (Rose) Morris of Vienna, IL; proud grandma of Marissa Ward, Tiara, Princess, Deontae, Johnny Shelton, Kylela McCroy, and Daniel Benjamin; dear great-grandma of 7.  She leaves behind many nieces, nephews and dear friends to cherish her memory.

Preceded in death by her parents and son, Jason W. Shelton. 

Moe grew up in Simpson, IL.  She moved to Joliet after high school and lived there for 35+ years.  She worked for the Joliet Herald News in the Circulation Department for over 20 years, retiring in 2000.  After her retirement, she moved with Jerry back down to southern Illinois where they settled in Elizabethtown.

She was an avid sports fan, cheering on the Chicago Cubs and Bulls.  She had a great appreciation for the outdoors and animals.  She loved growing flowers and waiting for the hummingbirds to visit.  She always had cats and dogs to care for, along with any other wildlife that may wander into the yard.  

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Will County Humane Society, 24109 Seil Road, Shorewood, IL 60404.

Visitation for Janice E. "Moe" Shelton will be Tuesday, December 27, 4:00-8:00 p.m. at the Fred C. Dames Funeral Home, 3200 Black Rd (at Essington Rd.), Joliet, IL.  Funeral services will be held Wednesday, December 28, 11:00 a.m. at the funeral home chapel.  Interment at Willard Grove Cemetery, Channahon.
