Obituary of Carol Heitzman-Walters

Carol Ann Heitzman-Walters Carol Ann Heitzman-Walters of Oak Park, Illinois departed this earth on Sunday, March 28, 2010 at home with her loving family by her side. Carol was born on April 30, 1949 in Joliet, the second of four daughters of John and Irene (Skiniotes) Heitzman. She graduated from Providence High School in 1967, going on to complete the Joliet Township Adult Education LPN Training Course, after which she devoted six months to aid the poor in Ghana, Africa through the Catholic Medical Missions. She later pursued her RN degree at Ferris State University in Big Rapids, Michigan, graduating in 1978. On February 14, 1986, Carol married her best friend, Joseph B. Walters and they proudly graced the world with two wonderful children, Irene Joy in 1987 and Zoe Josie-Marie in 1995 (all surviving at home). When her health would allow it, Carol was an active member of the St. Bernardine's Women's Club and spent many hours volunteering for the West Suburban P.A.D.S., but mostly enjoyed spending time with her family gardening, fishing and camping. She was preceded in death by her paternal grandparents John and Bernadine (Schottes) Heitzman, her father John E. Heitzman, her maternal grandparents, George and Maria (Kapellas) Skiniotes and numerous aunts and uncles. Carol is also survived by her mother, Irene (Skiniotes) Heitzman, sisters Mary C. Lauterbach and Bernie (Steven) McMahel, all of the Joliet area, Susan (fiancé Bill Cox) Meister of Dallas, Texas, numerous nieces and nephews, which include her Godchildren Michael and Lauren, numerous aunts, uncles and cousins, and her devoted friend of many years, Abbie Simandl. Funeral Services will be Tuesday, March 30, 2010 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Bernardine's Catholic Church, 7246 W. Harrison Street, Forest Park, IL, Rev. Francis J. Grady, SSC officiating. Visitation will be held Wednesday, March 31, 2010 from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at the funeral home chapel. Interment in Woodlawn Memorial Park, Joliet. In lieu of flowers, the family prefers memorials to the St. Bernardine's St. Vincent DePaul Society. Arrangements by: FRED C.
