Barbara Mary Stover (Krostenko)

Barbara Mary Stover, of Joliet, passed away peacefully at the age of 80, on Sunday, January 15, 2023, at St. Joseph Medical Center, surrounded by the love of her family. She was born on November 3, 1942, the only daughter of the late Edward and Elizabeth (nee Gaydos) Jelenich. Born and raised in Joliet, Barbara was a 1961 graduate of St. Francis Academy. She enjoyed a long career as a seamstress with Harrah’s Casino, retiring in 2021, after 26 years of dedicated service. She loved her job and cherished the numerous friendships she made along the way.
Barbara was a spiritual woman who led by example. She was a longtime parishioner of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Joliet. She was also a generous and caring person, supporting many local and national organizations and causes.
Barbara is survived by her four children, Lisa Stover, Madonna Stover, Deborah (Michael) Schuster, and Derrick (Stephanie) Stover; grandchildren, Rachael Tamayo, Andrew Stover, Taylor Stover, and Ryan Schuster; one brother, Edward (Darlene) Jelenich; and her beloved dog, “Angel” and cat, “Blackie”. Several nieces, nephews, and cousins also survive, as well as her long-time dear friends, Sonya Leyva, Gayle Ansted, and Yvonne Verklan.
She is preceded by her parents.
Family and friends are invited to meet at St. Joseph Catholic Church 416 N. Chicago St., Joliet, IL, on Tuesday, January 24, 2023, where a Memorial Mass will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. Inurnment will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in her name to St. Joseph Indian School, Will County Humane Society, or Morning Star Ministries.
