Obituary of Verble Lenvel Liles, Jr.
Verble Lenvel Liles Jr., “Bud” of Plainfield passed away peacefully at the Lightways Hospice Facility on Monday, January 23, 2023. Bud fought a valiant and long battle with cancer. Bud was born on August 15, 1965, in Claremore Oklahoma to Verble and Patricia (Rogers) Liles. He is survived by his loving wife, Kimberly (Rice), of over sixteen years and their two sons, David Verble and Koda John, both at home, his mother-in-law, Patricia Rice of Joliet and brother-in-law, John F Rice III (Heather) and niece Brooke Costa of Wadsworth, and Aunt Adlene Cottreell of Springhill Florida. Bud was also blessed to have kept in touch with childhood friends, Roger, Mike, Johnny and James who also survive him. Close family friend, Carol Boyd and family of Claremore Oklahoma also survive him. In addition, Bud was blessed to be part of Kim’s extended family which afforded him many cousins, aunts and uncles who also survive, in particular, a special “niece and nephew” Samantha and Tony Trabold.
Bud spent his childhood in Claremore and Duncan Oklahoma. Post high school he worked as a trim carpenter, plumber's apprentice and eventually ended up in law enforcement. He worked for various sheriffs’ departments in Oklahoma and after ten years left to work in private security. Working in security took him across the country and eventually landed him in the Chicago Suburbs where he and Kim met. Bud’s favorite “job” was homeschooling his son Koda.
Bud was a diehard Cowboys Fan. He loved watching NFL football and cheering on his Cowboys! Cooking, especially smoking meats, was a hobby of Bud’s and when he cooked all were invited to enjoy. Bud enjoyed fishing with his son David and watching John Wayne movies. Spending time with family was very important to Bud as well. Bud also was a skilled wood-worker who enjoyed making things and improving his home.
In 2020, Bud was featured on the A & E T.V. Show, Kids Behind Bars Life or Parole. Bud arrested and helped prosecute the youngest female in Oklahoma history for murdering her step-mother. Bud is preceded in death by his parents, Verble and Patricia (Rogers), his Uncle Vernon and Aunts Katherine and Maureen and his father-in-law, John F. Rice Jr.
The family wishes to express their gratitude to the Edwards Hospital Staff, Edwards Cancer Center Staff and the Lightways Hospice Staff. All of whom took wonderful care of Bud (and Kim) during this journey.
