Obituary of Rebecca Ann Black
Rebecca Ann Black, (nee Steele), passed away peacefully on Monday, January 23, 2023, at 89 years old. Rebecca was born in Morris, IL to Donald and Mary (Harney) Steele. She grew up in Morris and attended Morris Community High School.
She had four children with her former husband, Jack: Jeff (Judy Bush) Black, Kristie (James) Elsner, Barbara (Steve) Litwin, and the late Mary Reynolds. She is also survived by eight grandchildren, Brett and Leanne Black, Laura Fisher, Craig and Michael Elsner and Jack, Matthew, and Hayley Litwin and ten great-grandchildren that she adored; as well as many nieces and nephews.
In addition to her daughter, Mary, she is preceded by three siblings, Dona (Russ) Grieff, Chuck (Judy) Steel and Dick (Joyce) Steele.
As a young woman she worked for Illinois Bell as a switchboard operator, but for much of her adult life, Becky worked at Kroger. She was a deli manager in Morris and then moved to the Bourbonnais store. When she retired she volunteered on the Peace and Social Justice Committee at her church. She loved baking and cooking for her family and made soup weekly for the church soup dinners. At 80 years young, she was still volunteering to give rides to the elderly.
Becky loved life and was always up for an adventure. She was energetic and a hard worker. She enjoyed traveling, painting, and home decorating but truly loved to have fun and laugh. She always treasured her annual trips to Arizona to visit her lifelong dear friends, Millie and Elise Bartlett. Three of her big loves in life were hot fudge sundaes, the Cubs, and Busch Lite beer.
Her beautiful smile and big personality will be sorely missed by those who knew and loved her.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Grundy Community Hospice in her name, 518 W. Illinois Avenue, Morris, IL 60450 (815) 942-8525.
