I'm so so saddened by this extreme loss. I have many fond memories of making theatre with James. One thing that sticks most prominently in my memory of James is that he always had a smile for me. No matter when, no matter where, whenever I encountered him, I was sure to be met with a smile and probably a quirky delightful comment. I am so sorry to hear of this loss. I'm sending love to all his friends and family and keeping you all in my heart.

Words cannot express my sadness. My thoughts and prayers are with the entire Maher family.
Our paths merged, diverged, and back again over the course of 20+ years, but I will always remember James as a free, charismatic, and gregarious spirit who was the life of every get-together. Simply no one could tell a story or make you laugh like he could, and he always looked for the best in people. He made friends with everyone and was a stranger to no one.
I will miss the smile in his eyes, being able to tease him about (what was at times) his "Celtic 'fro", kooky kitchen concoctions, or other nonsense and him teasing me back. I will miss his wit, his creativity, and our late night rants together. James was always willing to listen and always made you feel welcome. He may have had some rough edges, but at his core he was one of the sweetest among men. He was very much loved and will be missed.
Until we meet again old friend, may God hold you in the palm of his hand.

James! Boog T. Boog! The true life of the party at Loyola.
James was one of the kindest, sweetest, devilish little imps I've had the honor to know. Though our time in college was brief, he left a last impression on me. James always made everyone feel wanted and valued. He was all about inclusion, welcoming every new student into the Theatre tribe. He was a true friend, willing to give you the shirt off his back (even if you didn't ask for it) and the one person on the planet who would volunteer to help you move. No one was quicker to laugh than James. I will miss our chats, reveling in our shared times at Loyola. James was truly a unique spirit and he will be greatly missed. My condolences and heartfelt wishes of healing for his family and friends during this difficult time.
