Lawrence Bailey

Obituary of Lawrence E. Bailey

Lawrence "Larry" E. Bailey, a/k/a "Beatle"

Lawrence E. Bailey, age 74, of Lake Placid, FL, formerly of Plainfield, IL, passed away on Wednesday, February 1, 2023, as a result of a stroke.  He was born on July 27, 1948, in Jacksonville, FL, at the U.S. Naval Hospital.

He was a graduate of Plainfield High School and resided in Plainfield most of his life.  Lawrence was the beloved only child of Howard and Louise.  He was a proud lifetime honorary member of the Will County Carpenters Local #174, member of the Ravens A.C., South Side Civic Club, the Moose #1960 and Elks #2661 of Lake Placid, FL.  Prior to moving to FL, he was a member of the Plainfield Moose #2491.

Larry's passion was fishing - catching "green girls" in any body of fresh water his boat would go in. Occasionally he would deep sea fish, but his real enjoyment came from fishing with friends and family.  He always made sure his boat was clean and ready for the next adventure.  Larry was an avid outdoorsman who loved to hunt, golf, and for many years, ride his motorcycles across the country.  He enjoyed spending time with his extended family at annual reunions and was the go-to person for family history.  Playing pinochle and euchre with him could be fierce at times.  He looked forward to Tuesday tea-time with long-time buddy Tim Glagola and phone calls with Jerry Shield, as well as Thursday afternoon tee-times with the Will County Carpenters League.

Above all, his greatest love was for family. He was exceptionally proud of his daughters and sons-in-law.  He was lovingly called "Pops" by his sons-in-law, "Papa" by his grandchildren, and "Papa G" by his great-grandchildren.  His hugs were immeasurable and his sarcasm plenty.  He will be missed by many.

Larry is survived by his wife, Deborah (nee Roberts) Bailey; daughters, Sandra (Kevin) MacArthur and Jennifer (Tim) McFarland; two beloved grandchildren, Steven (Holly) McFarland and Amber (Cody) Harris; five adored great-grandchildren, Matthew, Chrissy and Michael McFarland, and McKinley and Riley Jo Harris; step-children, Rocco (Lucy) Pannaralla, Adria (Chris) Olszewski, and Rachel (Bill) Genz; step-grandchildren, Morgan Pannaralla, Aubrey and Amelia Olszewski, and Evelyn and Walter Genz; and his dog, Buster.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Howard L. (2001) and E. Louise (nee Landers) Bailey (2016); and his first wife, Christy (Petrinos) Bailey (2001).
