Joann Malic

Obituary of Joann Malic

Joann Malic, was a beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, friend and angelic cantor during her incredible 87 years of life. On February 2, 2023, she got her wings and went peacefully home to walk with the angels in heaven.

Born September 21, 1934 in Minooka, IL James and Elma (Bedford) Rushton.  Joann had the voice of an angel. She was offered a place at Juilliard and The Lawerence Welk Show but chose to share her gifts with her community and church. Her beautifully performed soprano vocals touched the hearts and souls of so many on Sunday mornings.

Joann attended Minooka Community High School. She went on to graduate from St. Francis University. A greeting card crafting enthusiast, she devoted an entire room in her home to her favorite hobby.  She was so thoughtful. With her loved ones in her heart, every holiday and life event was met with a beautifully hand-crafted card.

Joann is survived by her 3 children, Robert McGee (Eva), Donna Barr (George), and Patrick McGee; 9 grandchildren Erica [McGee] Jaunich (Jeff), Alexander Allsopp (Saria), Adam Allsopp, Andrew Allsopp (Makayla), Aaron Barr (Katie), Lauren [Barr] Jebsen (Dan), Ian Barr (Elaine), Quinn McGee (Ola), and Riley McGee; 6 great-grandchildren, Hunter Jaunich, Evan Jaunich, Lillianna Allsopp, Maddox Allsopp, Tucker Jebsen and Gordon Jebsen. Predeceased by her brother, William Rushton, parents, and step-father, Fay Manthei.

A memorial service and celebration of life will be held at a later date. “Peace I leave with you, My peace I give to you; not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.” John 14:27 NKJV – 27
