Obituary of Sister M. Thadine Kaminski, OSF

Sister M. Thadine (Mary Ann) Kaminski passed into eternal life February 10, 2023, at Ascension Villa Franciscan Place. She was 83 years of age. She lived the Franciscan way of life for 66 years, sharing joy wherever she went through the culinary arts and the art of friendship.  

A native of Chicago, Illinois, Sister Thadine Kaminski was one of eight children. She is survived by her brother, Donald (Toni) Wagner of Plymoth, Minnesota; her niece, Connie (Dan) Schroedl; her nephew, Michael (Chris) Wagner; her cousin, Susan Kopczyk and many extended family members. 

She was preceded in death by her parents, James and Stella (Kopczyk) Kaminski; her brothers, Richard Wagner, Joseph Wagner, John Kaminski; her sisters, Dorothy Wagner, Louise Wagner and Lorraine McCann. She will be fondly remembered.

Sister Thadine was a 1956 graduate of St. Francis Academy (Joliet Catholic Academy), Joliet, Illinois.  She studied at Joliet Junior College, Joliet, Illinois, where she received (1975) an Associate degree in the applied science of culinary arts. She was certified by the State of Illinois Department of Public Health in Foodservice sanitation (1976), National Institute for the Foodservice Industry (1976), and Silver Cross Hospital, Joliet, Illinois. During her years of service and ministry, Sister Thadine attended and participated in the National Restaurant Association Show, as well as many foodservice events and workshops.  French pastries were her specialty and she won numerous awards in food shows for them.

Most of Sister Thadine’s ministry was dedicated to Illinois-based locations and Joliet-based community institutions except for one interim at St. Peter, Mansfield, Ohio. On occasion, she provided support to the hearing impaired and reached out to seniors in low-income housing. 

Visitation for Sister Thadine Kaminski will take place at 8:30 a.m. at Our Lady of Angels Retirement Home on Thursday, February 23, 2023, followed by the Mass for Christian Burial at 9:00 a.m. Remembrances and Committal will take place at 10:30 a.m. in the Chapel at Resurrection Cemetery, 200 W. Romeo Rd. Romeoville, IL 60446. All are invited to attend.
