Obituary of Beatrice Ann Scholar
Beatrice Ann Scholar, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, February 14, 2023, at the youthful age of 98.
Bea was born on November 29th, 1924 in Chicago, IL & moved to Joliet with her family when she was 10 months old. She graduated from Joliet Township H.S. in 1942 & went on to attend the University of Wisconsin where she met her beloved husband, Sydney Scholar, who passed away in 2009.
Not many people get to see and experience 98 years of life as Bea did, and she lived it to the fullest. Bea was a life-time member of the Joliet Jewish Congregation where she served as a member of the Board. In addition, she served as two-time President of Hadassah & was a proud volunteer at Silver Cross Hospital for 25 years where she also served on the Advisory Board. Bea was a breast cancer survivor of 43 years with a strong will to live until she closed her eyes for the last time.
Family was everything to Bea. She was a devoted mother, grandmother & Bubbie. Bea is survived by her two loving daughters, Bonnie Berlinsky and Jacquie Bohanske; adoring and adored grandsons, Joshua Berlinsky, Jeffrey (Treena) Berlinsky, Michael (Lindsay) Bohanske and Jason Bohanske; as well as her great-grandchildren, Rian Berlinsky, Zachary Berlinsky, Ezekial Berlinsky and Sydney Bohanske.
Bea is preceded in death by her loving husband, Sydney, her parents Morris & Nettie Saper and her aunt & uncle, Morris & Anna Wiener.
Funeral services for Beatrice Scholar will be held on Monday, February 20, 2023, at Joliet Jewish Congregation, 250 N. Midland Avenue, Joliet, IL 60435, where she will lie in state from 10:30 a.m. until the time of services at 11:00 a.m. Interment will follow at 1:00 p.m. at Shalom Memorial Park, Arlington Heights.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in her name to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
