Obituary of Patrick Matthew Bagdon
Patrick Matthew Bagdon, age 46, of Joliet, passed away peacefully on Sunday, March 5, 2022 at Advocate Good Shepherd Hospital in Barrington, with his devoted parents by his side. Patrick was diagnosed with a form of brain cancer three years ago, had a period of remission, but for the past nine months had bravely but unsuccessfully fought the cancer’s return.
Patrick was born August 27, 1976 in Oak Park, IL. He worked as a graphic designer in the advertising industry, but most enjoyed getting to work as a stand-up comedian at numerous venues in the Chicago area.
A gentle spirit with a kind heart, Patrick used his great sense of humor and comedic skills in ways beyond the stage. The world, in fact, was his stage as he used his talents to counsel other patients fighting cancer, especially the young people being treated through St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. Even during the worst of his own treatment, he entertained hospital staff with his quick wit and delightful comedy. Patrick was also a passionate artist.
His unselfishness, helpfulness and loyalty were attributes that served him well throughout his life. He was a true friend to many and was a very loving person. He will never be forgotten by his family and the love they shared.
Patrick is survived by his loving parents, Bertha L. (Bonin) and Edward J. Bagdon of Joliet; his fiancé, Monica Paonessa; and his beloved aunt, Lillian Bonin.
In lieu of flowers, memorials in his name to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital (www.stjude.org) would be appreciated.
A Celebration of Life for Patrick will be held Saturday, April 1, 2023 from 9:00 a.m. until the time of a Memorial Service at 10:00 a.m., at the Fred C. Dames Funeral Home, 3200 Black Road, Joliet. Cremation rites have been accorded and interment will be private.
