Obituary of Mike McKeand

Age 72 of Joliet, IL passed from this life late Monday evening, March 6, 2023 at his home with family at his side.

Mike was born March 14, 1950 to the late Eleanor (Oswald) and Gerald McKeand in Joliet and was a lifelong area resident.

He is the beloved husband of Cindy (Moeller) McKeand; loving father of Michael (Lisa) McKeand and Kerri McKeand; devoted grandfather of Liam and Aiden McKeand and Oona Buckley-McKeand; dear brother of Judi (Don) Shiffer, Sandy Megyeri, Harry (late Darlene) McKeand and brother-in-law of
Shirley and Judy McKeand. He is also survived by many cherished nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he is also preceded in death by his siblings Jerry “Butch”, Kenny, Johnny and George McKeand as well as his in-laws, Charlotte and Patrick Cleary.

Mike retired from Caterpillar Tractor Inc after 30 years of dedicated service. Never one to be idle, he rejoined the workforce not long after retirement and enjoyed 15 years of employment with Plainfield School District 202.

He was a talented woodworker and an avid White Sox and Bears fan.

All friends and relatives are invited to gather on Friday March 10, 2023 from 3:00 – 5:00 p.m. at the Fred C. Dames Funeral Home 3200 Black Rd. (at Essington Rd.) Joliet. A prayer service will conclude the evening beginning at 5 p.m. As it was Mike’s wish, cremation rites have been accorded.

In lieu of flowers, memorials in his name can be made to Lightways Hospice of Joliet or St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
