Obituary of Thomas Joel Conner

Thomas Joel Conner, age 79, of Channahon, passed away Monday, March 6, 2023 at Ascension St. Joseph Medical Center.

Born July 29, 1943 in Joliet, he was the son of John and Norma (St. Germain) Conner and was a graduate of Joliet Central High School.  He married the love of his life, the former Linda Sue Miller, and they enjoyed 25 years of marriage until her passing July 21, 1998.  His parents and his special friend, Rosemarie, also preceded him in death.

He is survived by his two devoted sons, Shawn Conner of Wilmington, and Kevin (Marcie) Conner of Channahon; two adoring granddaughters, Emily and Elizabeth; two brothers, Daniel and Patrick; four sisters, Lydia, Kathy, Nancy and Monica; and many nieces and nephews.

Tom was a proud veteran of the United States Navy, serving from 1964 to 1967.  He then began his over 30 year career as a mail carrier for the United States Postal Service, retiring in 2000.  He was also a member of Messiah Lutheran Church, and an active volunteer at Morning Star Mission for many years. 

Tom enjoyed watching sports but his most cherished pastime was being involved in the lives and activities of his precious granddaughters, Emily and Elizabeth, who were his pride and joy. 

A Memorial Gathering for Thomas Conner will be held Sunday, March 12, 2023 at the Fred C. Dames Funeral Home, 3200 Black Road, Joliet, from 2:00 p.m. until the time of his Memorial Service at 4:00 p.m.  Cremation rites have been accorded and interment will be in Woodlawn Memorial Park on Tuesday, March 14, 2023 at 11:00 a.m., where military honors will be accorded under the auspices of the United States Navy.
