Obituary of Helen Louise Gebbia

Helen Louise Gebbia (nee Hiler)

Helen Louise Gebbia, age 78, passed away peacefully at her home in Shorewood, on Friday, March 17, 2023, surrounded by the love of her family.  Helen was born in Chicago, IL, on October 24, 1944, the daughter of the late Carl and Florence (nee Wallace) Hiler. 

Helen retired as a Certified Nursing Assistant, having worked with Home Health Care and formerly Palos Community Hospital.  In her free time, Helen enjoyed arts and crafts and created beautiful scrapbooks filled with memories.  She was a regular at Inwood Recreation Center where she always enjoyed taking spinning classes.

Her biggest joy in life was being a “Nana” and spending time with her family.

Helen is survived by her loving husband of 54 Years, James Lewis Gebbia; her children, Mike (Michelle) Gebbia, Paul Gebbia (Rebecca Swayze), and Amy (fiancé Tim Post) Pulido; grandchildren, Brandon Gebbia, Sarah Gebbia, Logan Pulido, and Lauryn Pulido; one brother, Earl Hiler; and her faithful canine companion, “Molly”.

She is preceded by her parents; and her step-father, Patrick Penker.

Helen’s family would like to thank Lightways Hospice, especially Jennifer and Kiesha for the care, compassion and kindness that they gave Helen in her final journey.

Funeral Services for Helen Louise Gebbia will be held privately by the family.  As it was her request, cremation rites have been accorded and inurnment will take place at Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery. 

In lieu of flowers, memorial may be made in her name to American Cancer Society.
