Obituary of Philip J. Mackey
Philip John Mackey, age 90, and a longtime resident of Alsip, IL, passed peacefully with his family by his side on Sunday, March 26, 2023 at AccentCare in Naperville, IL.
Phil was born March 4, 1933 to Daniel E. and Rose M. (Splinter) Mackey in Chicago, IL where he was raised and educated, graduating with honors from De La Salle High School in 1951.
He served his country proudly as a member of the U.S. Coast Guard from 1952-56, attaining the rank of Radarman 1st Class. After his honorable discharge, he returned home, settling in Alsip.
Phil married the love of his life, the former Mary Patricia Walsh, and they enjoyed 36 years of marriage until her passing on September 23, 1998. A son, Daniel, and his parents also preceded him in death.
He is the beloved father of Kevin (Jackie Bourret) Mackey, Kathleen Mackey, and Erin (David Moe) Mackey-Moe; and the proud and devoted grandfather of Connor and Abigail Moe, and Quinn Zimmerman. Also, surviving are his brother, John (Maureen) Mackey, and several beloved nieces and nephews.
Phil enjoyed a rewarding career in the trucking industry as a proud member of Teamster’s Local #710, retiring in 1995. During his retirement, Phil could be found holding court while tending bar most Saturdays at Paddy B’s Pub in Orland Park, IL. Phil established a loyal following of friends and patrons who would carve out time in their day just to see “Father Phil”.
Phil traveled extensively to all four corners of the United States and internationally to Ireland, with our beautiful National Parks, especially Yellowstone, being his favorite places to visit.
A loving and beloved Husband, Dad and Papa, time spent with family was his most prized pastime.
