Obituary of Thomas John Spalo
Thomas John "Spider" Spalo, age 62, of Minooka, and formerly of Plainfield and Elmhurst, passed away suddenly, Monday, April 3, 2023.
Born June 3, 1960 in Cincinnati, OH, he was the son of the late Raymond and Marilyn Jean (Whittenberg) Spalo, and was a graduate of York Township High School. Tom was a proud member of Glazier’s Local #27 and the International Painters and Allied Trades, retiring December 30, 2022.
Tom was known as a skilled and talented glazier in his trade, and for his witty sense of humor and always the life of the party. Tom will be remembered as someone his friends could always rely on and they were not shy in seeking his help with projects or things needing repair. Throughout his life he enjoyed fishing, hunting, scuba diving, and skiing.
Surviving are his wife of 28 years, Carol E. (Rutherford) Spalo; his brothers and sisters, Richard Spalo of Downers Grove, Patricia (John) Maxwell of Florida, Mike (Janet) Spalo of Arizona, Cheri Spalo of California, and Lorie Spalo of Joliet; his wife’s parents, Bill Rutherford and Fran and Ron Smeets; and his canine best pals, Cooper and Charlie. Tom was also a loving brother-in-law and uncle to many nieces and nephews and dear friend to all who knew him.
Memorials to a charity of the donor's choice would be greatly appreciated.
Cremation rites have been accorded and a celebration of Tom’s life will be held at a later date. Fred C. Dames Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
