La Velle A. High
(nee McCann)
Age 92. Thursday, July 17, 2008 at Sunny Hill Nursing Home. Born July 3, 1916 in Aurora, IL, she was raised in Joliet and had resided in Joliet all her life.
Loving mother of Donna J. (Donald) Hall; beloved grandmother of Diana (Larry) Cardani and David Hall; proud great-grandmother of Jonathan, Timothy and Brian Crane; dearest great-great-grandmother of Annabelle; Audrey and Natalie. Also survived by her brother, Robert E. McCann and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Preceded in death by her husbands, Carl Johnson and Murrey E. High; an infant son, Melvin Robert; parents, Albert and Agnes (nee O'Rourke) McCann; infant brother, Patrick; and a sister, Loretta.
La Velle was a member of the Church of St. Jude, the Women of the Moose Chapter #84; and a friend of Mercy Home for Boys and Girls in Chicago. She retired from Montgomery Wards after 18 years as a department manager. A former member of St. Mary Carmelite Church, the Scapular Confraternity and the Alumnae Club; also a former volunteer at St. Joseph Medical Center in Joliet and the Mission Hospital in Mission, TX. She was a fan of the Chicago Bears, the White Sox and Notre Dame.
La Velle's family will always remember her caregiver, Tina Holloway, Dr. Steven Nemeth and his staff for their concern and kindness over the years, everyone at Sunny Hill, especially the nurses and staff of Sixth Avenue, and Susan and the staff at Joliet Area Community Hospice.
Private services were held with a Mass at St. Jude and interment at Mt. Olivet Cemetery. Masses in La Velle's memory would be appreciated. Arrangements by:
