Obituary of Joyce A. Carrier
Age 82, of Joliet, IL passed away peacefully at home on Saturday, May 20, 2023, with her loving family by her side.
She was born on September 20, 1940 in Pekin, IL, where she resided until 1953 when she moved to Joliet with her family.
She graduated with the class of 1958 from Joliet Township High School and shortly thereafter started working at Caterpillar in Aurora, IL until 1967. She had made many lifetime friends from Caterpillar and she so enjoyed meeting with them throughout the years. She felt blessed to be a homemaker while raising her children for the next two decades. In 1988, Joyce returned to the workforce, assuming various responsibilities at the Farmers Insurance Agency in Plainfield. She used her dedication and sense of humor in making sure the customers were happy until her health changes required her to be home. She was a caring person who loved sending cards and texts to all her friends and family. She was a woman of faith who Loved the Lord and attended Grace Baptist Church in Shorewood for many years. She was the primary caregiver for her oldest Sister in her later years
She is the beloved mother of Douglas (Susan) Carrier, Shelly Wilson (Butchy Cargle), and Scott (Jennifer) Carrier; devoted grandmother of Jonathan (Caitlin) and Stephan (Libby) Carrier; Tyler (Samantha Eddy) and Brett (Hallie Roechner) Wilson, and Morgan Carrier; proud great grandma of Cecilia “Cece” Carrier. Also surviving are her brother-in-law, Joseph Jimenez; her nephew and many nieces and friends.
She was preceded in death by her mother and step-father, Carrie and Paul Hurley; her father, Lawrence Van Dyke; two sisters, Delores Van Dyke and Sharon Jimenez; step-sister, Margaret Ann (Hurley) Fergus and step-brother, Ronald Hurley.
Visitation for Joyce will be held at the Fred C. Dames Funeral Home 3200 Black Rd. (at Essington Rd.) Joliet on Saturday, May 27, 2023 from 9 a.m. until services begin at 11 a.m. Interment will follow in Woodlawn Memorial Park.
In lieu of flowers, memorials in her name can be made to Lightways Hospice of Joliet.
