Rita A. Ohlson, 94, passed from this life into eternal life on May 24, 2023 in Burr Ridge, surrounded by the love of her family. Rita was born on February 11, 1929, in Chicago, IL, the only daughter of the late John and Loretta (nee Wall) Robertson. She was a graduate of Lucy L. Flower Vocational High School and the College of St. Francis in the St. Joseph’s Nursing Program where she attained an RN and worked at Hines VA Hosptial in Maywood.
She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and friend to all who were blessed to know her.
Rita was a devout Catholic who led by example. She was an active parishioner of the Cathedral of St. Raymond Nonnatus, where she was a Lector for many years and was also in the prayer and rosary group, leading the rosary for many years. Rita was also a Secular Franciscan.
Rita is survived by her children, Grant III (Jean), Debra Ann, John (Lavonne), Loretta (Scott) McWilliams, and Thomas (Paula); grandchildren, Gwen (Joe) Smith, Brenna (Morgan Keller) Ohlson, Grant M. (Melissa) Ohlson, John (Tara) Ohlson, James (Melissa) Ohlson, Scott and Zachary McWilliams, and Reed and Cooper Ohlson; step-grandchildren, Crystn (Mike) Zloza, Lauren (Jeff) Duncan, and Samatha (Steve) Reese; and13 great-grandchildren. Numerous nieces and nephews also survive.
She is preceded by her loving husband of 57 years, Grant W. Ohlson, Jr.; her parents; and one brother, John J. (Henrietta) Robertson.
The family would like to thank Kathy Kowalska for the many dedicated years of loving care that she provided as well as the staff of Dimensions Living of Burr Ridge.
Funeral Services for Rita A. Ohlson will be held on Tuesday, May 30, 2023. Family and friends are invited to meet at 9:45 a.m. at the Cathedral of St. Raymond Nonnatus, 604 N. Raynor Ave., Joliet, IL, where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. Interment will follow at Resurrection Cemetery in Romeoville.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests mass be said in Rita’s name.
