Obituary of Mary Kay Golimowski
Mary Catherine “Kay” Golimowski
Kay Golimowski, age 74, passed away suddenly on Sunday, June 4, 2023, at the Ascension St. Joseph Medical Center in Joliet. Kay was born in Joliet on August 16, 1948, to the late John and Marian Loscheider. While growing up in Joliet, she attended St. Patrick Catholic Grade School and the St. Francis Academy High School before getting her Bachelor’s Degree from the College of St. Francis. As a young lady, she worked some years at Mr. Donut and JC Penney before beginning her career in education in 1990. On June 24, 1972, she married Michael Golimowski, and the two celebrated 46 years of marriage before his passing in 2018. Kay could usually be found supporting Michael at the many wrestling meets that he coached at. Near the end of Mike's coaching career, it became a tradition to gift her with a new rose bush for all her help at the end of every wrestling season, gifts she would always cherish. The two also enjoyed traveling together, especially to their favorite spot in Kentucky.
Kay served the Morris area as a substitute teacher at most of the area grade schools. Following her retirement, she volunteered in the community, giving much of her free time to the Immaculate Conception Church and School amongst other organizations. She loved working in her garden and even assisted in tending to the Church’s prayer garden. She was also the primary caregiver of both her in-laws, and in his later years, her husband Michael.
Kay is survived by her sons, Kyle (Jennifer) Golimowski and Keith Golimowski; her grandsons, Andrew and Alex; sister, Joanne “Jody” (Jim) Chiapello; brothers, Michael Loscheider, Richard (Judy O’Brien) Loscheider, and Paul (Susie) Loscheider; brother-in-law, Steve (Kathy) Golimowski; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Michael Golimowski (2018); her parents; and her brother, James in infancy.
