Obituary of Joan Lee Hernandez
Our beloved Joannie passed from our hands to the Lord’s on Thursday June 15, 2023.
Joan Lee Hernandez was born on April 1, 1946. She was raised in Rockdale, Illinois and spent her life in the Joliet area. Joan met the love of her life, Thomas Hernandez, in 1960 at age 14 and they married in September 1964. They were the model of a loving marriage for nearly 60 years. Together they raised their children, Tom and Brooke (Brewer), and joyfully grew their family to include six wonderful granddaughters.
Joan had the biggest heart, the most beautiful smile and was always the picture of elegance. She was kind and compassionate but also strong and steady. She would fiercely protect those she loved and had a deep, personal relationship with God. She could often be found at morning mass or with a rosary in her hands. One of her greatest gifts was that of prayer, in which she would always remember those who needed help. She lived her life so that when she woke up and put her feet on the ground, the devil would quake.
Joan was greeted in heaven by her son, Thomas R. Hernandez, and son-in-law, Kevin J. Brewer, who preceded her in death. She is also preceded in death by her loving grandparents, Otto and Opal Boswell; her uncle, Earl Foster; and cousin, John Vickery.
Joan will be remembered with love by the many family members and friends whose lives she touched. She will be missed most of all by her loving husband, Tom, daughter, Brooke Hernandez Brewer, daughter-in-law, Jennifer Hernandez, and granddaughters, Emerson Calvin Hernandez, Celeste Thomas Hernandez, Delaney Nicole Hernandez, Katherine Joan Brewer, Elizabeth Lee Brewer and Margaret Lillian Boswell Brewer.
