Obituary of Joseph S. Ferguson
Joseph Spencer Ferguson, age 50, of Joliet, passed away suddenly on Friday, June 23, 2023 at Silver Cross Hospital in the emergency room. Joe had been diagnosed with cancer in January of this year, but his passing was not expected this soon.
Born February 17, 1973 in Joliet, he was the son of William R. and Kathleen A. (Smith) Ferguson, and was a graduate of Providence Catholic High School. He continued his education at Joliet Junior College, Northern Illinois University and completed the IBEW Electrician Apprentice Program.
Joe was a very proud member of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Local #176 and applied his skills and talents as a contractor for Meade Electric Company at various sites, most recently at the INEOS Joliet facility
An avid sports fan, Joe enjoyed following his beloved Chicago Cubs and Chicago Bears, as well as enjoying fishing and playing golf. He also had a passion for music, and his eclectic collection of music was an important part of his life. He was also proud of his classic Cadillac Allanté convertible that he conned his brother, Mark, into keeping in meticulous condition!
Joe will be remembered as a loving and beloved son, brother and uncle, who knew no strangers, and possessed the ability to talk to anyone. Whatever the subject, he was able to carry on an intelligent conversation. To know Joe was to profit from his wit, intelligence, memory and sense of humor. He was a good man who will be dearly missed, and we will forever keep him in our hearts.
He is survived by his loving mother, Kathie Ferguson of Wilmington; his devoted brother and sister-in-law, Mark and Paula Ferguson of New Lenox; one adoring niece, Madalyn Ferguson; aunts and uncles, Patti Chizmark, Debbie and Mike Decman, and Bill and Lois Smith; and numerous cousins including Linda Zabel and Tommy Ferguson.
He was preceded in death by his father, William R. Ferguson (July 14, 2014); his grandparents, William J. and Stephanie Ferguson and William and Helen Smith; and his loving partner, Eileen O’Donnell.
Visitation for Joseph Ferguson will be held Wednesday, June 28, 2023 from 3:00 to 8:00 p.m., at the Fred C. Dames Funeral Home, 3200 Black Road, Joliet. Family and friends are invited to meet Thursday, June 29, 2023 at 10:30 a.m., at the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary Catholic Church, 195 S.
