Obituary of Mary L. Gonerka

Mary Lynn Gonerka, age 65, passed away  peacefully on Saturday, July 1, 2023, at Lightways Hospice Home. Mary was born in Chicago, IL on May 20, 1958, a daughter of the late Anna  (nee Dreher) Valentine and Thomas Hedge.

Mary worked as an educator for most of her life.  She was especially proud of her work at a before-and-after school program in Texas.

Mary was married to her beloved husband Anthony Gonerka for 34 years, and he survives

Mary is  also survived by her sons; Timothy(Paula) Wendt of Plano, TX, Alexander, Anthony, and Christopher Gonerka of Channahon,  IL; her siblings Pamela (Wayne) Lucas of Lake City, FL, Elaine Knight of Lake City, FL, Vincent Hedge of Franklin Park, IL, Veronica(Derrick Stein) Hedge of Morris, IL; and many nieces, nephews and friends.

She was preceded in death by her daughter Crystal Dawn

 Visitation for Mary will be held Thursday, July 6, 2023 from 3:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the Fred C. Dames Funeral Home, 3200 Black Rd ( at Essington Rd.) Joliet.  Funeral services will be held Friday, July 7, 2023 at 9:00 a.m. from the funeral home to St. Ann Catholic Church, 24500 S. Navajo Dr., Channahon, IL. where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m.  Interment will be in Resurrection Cemetery, Justice, IL.
