To Sr. Carole’s family,
I had Sister Michealette at SFA for Religion as a freshman. She was definitely ahead of her time regarding Social Justice. In high school, I was definitely more social than academic, but she was nice to me anyway. During my senior year, I wanted to be in the senior play but my work schedule collided with play practice and she saw a frustrated senior. She worked it out so I could do both be in the play and not lose my job.
After graduation, I entered the Mercy Novitiate in Evergreen Park.
When the group of postulants went to a retreat place in Homewood, she and Sr. Rochelle came to visit us. Watching silly young nuns performing skits.
I always wanted to thank her for seeing in me what no one else did. I was not a superstar, I didn’t have the lead in the play, I left the convent but at a time when I needed it most, she saw my value.
I became a teacher and believe my sensitivity to students was learned from her, not even realizing it until now. I had tried to get in contact with her, but would always lose the address before I sent a letter, but I want you to know she effected many lives. Know that the ripples of her life continue in this world beyond her passing.
Mutual prayers,
