Joanne P. Thompson

Age 91, of Bradenton, Florida, and formerly Minooka, IL passed away peacefully, Thursday, June 29, 2023.

Joanne was born October 16, 1931, in Morris, IL to the late Catherine and Glen Hoyland. She resided in Morris until relocating to nearby Minooka while in her teen years as her father was called upon to assist in the opening of the Triangle Foundry.  After the move, Joanne continued going to school at St. Angela Academy in Morris where she graduated as Valedictorian of her class.  She then went on to attend college at St. Mary's in South Bend, Indiana.

Joanne married Richard "Casey" Thompson at St. Mary Catholic Church in Minooka.  They enjoyed nearly 50 years of marriage until he passed away in 1999.  While younger, she assisted her husband in various capacities at the family excavating business, C. Thompson & Sons. After they raised their children, Casey and Joanne enjoyed golf and travel, spending winters in Florida and attending their grandchildren’s sporting and school events.

Joanne is the beloved mother of Debbie (Bob) Breen, Susan (John) Owens, Doug (Carrie) Thompson, Denny (Barb) Thompson, Lisa (Larry) Simotes, Kim (Troy) Johnson, David (Heidi) Thompson, Danny (Kelly) Thompson and Scott (Heidi) Thompson.  She is the proud grandmother of 25 grandchildren, 41 great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild.  She will also be missed by several nieces, nephews, and her canine companion, Della.

In addition to her husband, she is also preceded in death by her parents, one grandson, two great-grandsons, and her siblings.

Joanne, a long-time member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Minooka was also their church organist years ago.  A fierce St. Louis Cardinals fan, she stuck to her convictions her entire life and could manage listening to talk radio and watching cable news network simultaneously, which is impressive because she comprehended it all. Joanne never wavered from her beliefs.  Other favorites included sewing, arranging flowers, and the occasional vodka gimlet.

Funeral services for Joanne were held Friday, July 14, 2023.  Interment took place at St. Mary Cemetery in Minooka.
