Obituary of John Hock

Hock, John G. July 19, 1926 to January 1, 2012 Age 85, of Joliet, Sunday January 1, 2012 at the Joliet Hospice Home surrounded by his loving family. John is survived by his children, John (Ann) Hock, Nancy (Jim) Mueller, Carey (Margaret) Hock, Betsy Hock, Deborah (Dr. Steve) Prinz and David (Malissa) Hock; his grandchildren, Brian (Jennifer) and John (Crystan) Hock, Lisa and Jeff (Jessica) Mueller, David Hock, Ryan, Scott, and Kyle Prinz, and Mieke and Max Hock. Also, survived by his siblings Georgiana (Robert) Gierke, Irene Hock, Robert Hock, and Josephine (Robert) Fitzpatrick. John was preceded in death by his wife Lynn Hock (April 14, 2011); his mother and father, John and Helen Hock; and his siblings Daniel, Francis, James, Ruth, Richard, Thomas, and Charles. Born in Chicago, he attended St. Maliaki Grade School and Carl Schurz High School. He worked as a bricklayer for 41 years. He played baseball with the Chicago Cubs Minor League Baseball Team before he enlisted in the Army on November 4, 1943 at the age of 17, and served his country in W.W.II. He loved telling his children and grandchildren stories about the war and the emotion he felt when he came home and saw the Statue of Liberty. He married Lynn Carey Hock on September 27, 1952. They lived in Joliet until they moved to Orlando, Florida in 1990, where he grew to love Walt Disney World and would go their almost every day. They moved back to Joliet in 1998. He loved his sports, and most of all, the Blackhawks and White Sox. Maria and Zofia "Z" Dlugopolska cared for John in a loving and caring way during his last months. A Celebration of John's life will be held Thursday, January 5, 2012 at 9:15 a.m. from the funeral home to the Church of St. Jude for Mass at 10:00 a.m. Interment will be in Mt. Olivet Cemetery.
