Obituary of Norma Mary Ahlberg

Norma M. Ahlberg, age 87, of Joliet, passed away peacefully, Wednesday, August 16, 2023, at Lightways Hospice Home with her loving family by her side.

Born June 23, 1936, in Joliet, she was the daughter of the late Clark and Frances (Humbert) Garland.  She married the love of her life, Donald Ahlberg, and they enjoyed 42 years of marriage prior to his passing February 8, 2013.  Her sisters, Betty (Robert) Stukel and Doris Garland; and brothers, John (Dolly) Garland, Clark (Bernie) Garland, William (Alice) Garland and Edward Garland also preceded her in death.

Norma was a loving and devoted wife, mother, sister and aunt who always put the needs of others before her own.  She will be fondly remembered as everyone’s “Aunt Norma” even if they were not related.  She had a remarkable sense of humor and loved animals, Bingo, and volunteering for the Humane Society.  A very Christian woman, praying the rosary was an important part of her life.  For many years, she was a bus driver for Joliet schools.

Norma is survived by her loving son, Michael (Golf Nonchaiteerakul) Ahlberg of Rosemont; two brothers, Donald (the late Judy) Garland and George (Barbara) Garland; numerous nieces and nephews including her devoted nieces, Beth Bonczalski, Diana Glidewell and Mary Grossklaus and their children, Kim Garcia, Chris Johnke, Loni Fazio, Danny Grossklaus, and Bryan and Jake Glidewell; and many great-nieces and great-nephews.

Visitation for Norma Ahlberg will be held Wednesday, August 23, 2023, from 10:00 a.m., until the time of funeral services at 11:00 a.m., at the Fred C. Dames Funeral Home, 3200 Black Road, Joliet, IL.  Interment will be in Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery.
