Bertha J. Hofer
(nee Planinsek)
Age 86. Monday, December 22, 2008 at her Shorewood residence surrounded by her loving family, following a four year courageous battle with MDS. Born in Auburn, IL to the late Frank and Emma (nee Matko) Planinsek, she was a Shorewood resident since 1951.
Surviving are her five children, Karen Allbert, Judy (Duane) Gronwold, Lynn (Greg) Kurtyak, Rick (Sue) Hofer and Tori Boyle; 14 grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; several extended family members; numerous nieces and nephews; her dear sister-in-law, Irene Planinsek; and her loyal and dear friend, Theresa Chaloka.
Preceded in death by her loving husband, Fred Hofer (1996); and her brother, Ted Planinsek.
Former President of the Village of Shorewood, serving the Village in numerous capacities spanning 50 years. She was recently honored by the Shorewood School which was named after her and her late husband. Member of her home parish, St. Joseph Catholic Church and most recently Holy Family Catholic Church in Shorewood. Bertha was the kind of person who made a difference in a lot of people's lives, and she will be dearly missed by her family and her community.
Funeral Services for Bertha J. Hofer will be Saturday, December 27, 2008 at 9:15 a.m. from the funeral home to St. Joseph Catholic Church for a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 a.m. Interment Woodlawn Memorial Park. Memorials in her name to a charity that will be established at a later date would be appreciated. Visitation Friday 2-8 p.m. at:
