Obituary of Phyllis J. Powell

Age 88, passed away on Wednesday, August 30, 2023, at her home.  She was born in Joliet and was a lifetime Joliet/Crest Hill resident.  She was a member of St. Peter Lutheran Church and the Church's Seniors Club, Crest Hill Ladies Civic League, and the Ladies Auxiliary of both the American Legion Post #1080 and VFW Cantigny Post #367.  Phyllis was also a proud founding member of the Crest Hill Veteran's Memorial.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Joe Wray Powell; her mother, Lavena Marquardt-Gotschika; and her father, William G. Marquardt.

Surviving are her son, Joe Wray (Renée) Powell Jr. of Chapel Hill, N.C.; daughter, Launda Rae Powell of Crest Hill; two grandchildren, Juliana R. and Michael J. Powell of N.C.; her sister, Marlene (late Art) Rinehart of Springfield, IL; and several nieces and nephews.

Visitation for Phyllis J. Powell will be held Monday, September 11, 2023, at the Fred C. Dames Funeral Home, 3200 Black Rd. (at Essington Road) Joliet, IL from 10:00 a.m. until services begin at 11:30 a.m.  Rev. David Totsky will be officiating.   Interment will follow at Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, it was one of Phyllis's final requests that any monetary donations be sent in her memory to St. Peter Lutheran Church, 310 N. Broadway Street, Joliet.
