Obituary of Gary E. Susner
Gary E. Susner, age 64, passed away on September 20, 2023. Gary was born March 28, 1959, the son of the late Bernard and Barbara (nee Lichtenauer) Susner in Joliet, IL. He was a graduate of Joliet West High School. Gary was a proud U.S. Marine Veteran. He had worked for The Joliet Herald News and most recently, Sam’s Club. He loved to visit his Sam’s Club co-workers.
Gary was a simple man with a strong Christian faith. He was a Cubs and Bears fan. Gary was always down for a good time, known to be the life of the party, and enjoyed a good laugh and joke. He will be remembered as a follower of St. Francis of Assisi and for his love of nature and taking care of animals. The birds and squirrels in his neighborhood will miss his regular feedings.
Survived by his children, Barbara Susner and Joseph Susner; his longtime girlfriend, Lori Peterson; step-children, Jennifer Benco and Joshua Rabenau; brothers, Kenneth (Harriet) Carlson, Jeff (Cheri) Susner, his twin, Larry (Tina) Susner, Mark (Mary Bilo) Susner, and Scott Susner; sisters, Debby (Pat) Carter, Stephanie (Cyrillo) Lopez, and Aimee Gornik; cousin and “brother from another mother,” Jim Susner; his prodigal son/cat, Tiger; and many nieces, nephews and dear friends.
Gary was preceded in death by his parents; and sister, Jennifer Susner.
Visitation will be held on Sunday, September 24, 2023, from 2:00 p.m. until the time of service at 5:00 p.m. at the Fred C. Dames Funeral Home, 3200 Black Rd., Joliet. As it was Gary’s wish, cremation rites will be accorded following service.
