Michael McDormett

Obituary of Michael J. McDormett

Michael J. McDormett, age 90, of Shorewood, passed away peacefully, Saturday, September 23, 2023, at Lightways Hospice, with his loving daughter by his side. Michael was born June 29, 1933, in Syracuse, NY.

After graduation from High School, Mike moved to Chicago where he met the love of his life, Bette. From that moment on, they were inseparable and had an exemplary marriage and friendship for 56 years.

During his35-yearr career at Transcon Truck Lines, he always prioritized family time and created the most memorable family vacations, outings, and holidays. Mike was not only a devoted father and husband, but he was also the most amazing Papa to his grandchildren and great-grandchild. He was always up for a night out, or a game and movie night in with a delicious meal, a Coke Zero in hand, and ice cream sure to follow. When not spending time with his family, Mike loved playing games with his Senior Club friends and volunteering in his community or with his Church.

He truly was one-of-a-kind, always put others first, and had an unmatched ability to make you feel special and loved. Anywhere he went, Mike was a fan favorite with his kind words, corny jokes, and infectious smile. He will forever be missed. But his memory and legacy will live on through his family and all those who were lucky enough to know him.

Michael is survived by his children, John McDormett of Prescott, AZ, Dawn (Peter) Lys of Shorewood, IL, and Tom (Janet) McDormett of Ft. Wayne, IN; his grandchildren, Bradley, Brittany, and Alex Lys, and Trevor (Lauren), Claire and Shaylin McDormett; and one great-grandson, Beau.

He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Bette J. (Smola) McDormett (December 27, 2017); and his parents, Thomas and Henriette Tady.
