Obituary of David R. Pierce
David R. Pierce
David R. Pierce passed away at the age of 74, on Friday, October 20, 2023, at St. Joseph Medical Center in Joliet. David was born in Gary, IN on September 29, 1949, the son of the late Russell and Jeannette (nee Bopp) Pierce. He grew up in Griffith and attended Griffith High School before proudly enlisting in the United States Army, where he earned a Marksman (Rifle) badge and National Defense Service Medal. David was a member of the American Legion Post 1080 and was a life member of the VFW.
David can be described as a handy guy. There wasn’t a tool made that he didn’t own and there wasn’t anything that he couldn’t make, build, or even fix! He was a diehard Chicago Cubs fan, and enjoyed being outdoors, camping or exploring the deep waters scuba diving. If he wasn’t listening to Rock N Roll music, he could be found watching an old Western.
David is survived by his loving wife of 45 years, Sandra Kay (nee Klimek) Pierce; son, Dustin Pierce; daughter, Jennifer (Joseph) Ellspermann; four grandchildren, Dustin Pierce, Jr., Addison Gaul, and Aidan and Aria Ellspermann; siblings, Donald (Akemi) Pierce, Calvin Pierce, and Paul Pierce; and his faithful canine companion, “Sheba”. Numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins also survive.
He is preceded in death by his twin sons, David and Frederick Pierce; his parents; and his siblings, Merrill Pierce, Sandra Tomlinson, Max Pierce, Dale Pierce, and Kathy Chancellor.
