Obituary of Donald Hugh Young
Donald Hugh Young, age 85, passed away peacefully on the morning of Sunday, October 22, 2023. He was born in Evergreen Park on October 20, 1938, to the late Donald M. and Louise Young. On May 7, 1961, he married the love of his life, Patricia Doran. The two most recently celebrated 62 years of marriage.
Donald served his country honorably in the United States Army. He managed the KFC in Oak Lawn for many years before retiring in 2003. When he wasn't spending time with his family, Donald enjoyed fishing, bowling, and volunteering in his church, where he served on various committees over the years. He was also very active with the Boy Scouts of America.
Donald is survived by his loving wife, Patricia Young; his children, Donald Harold (Jose Rivera) Young, Debbera (Duane) Hypke, and Kevin Young; his grandchildren, Blake Hypke, Tara (Ben) Coughlin, Eric Hypke, Jacob Hypke, Tyler Young, and Dylan Young; and great-grandchildren, Alexa, Bastian, and Finnegan. He is preceded in death by his parents and brother, Lawrence Young.
A Celebration of Life will be held at the Fred C. Dames Funeral Home, 3200 Black (at Essington) Rd. in Joliet on Saturday, November 4, 2023. Visitation with family and friends will begin at 10:00 a.m., followed by a memorial service at 11:00 a.m. A private inurnment service at Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery, Elwood, will take place at a later date. Donations to Lightways Hospice in Donald's name would be appreciated in lieu of flowers.
